Electrostatic precipitators have been used since the mid-1930's, as air cleaning devices to remove sub micron particles from ambient and processed air.
Particle Collection Efficiency
Efficiency is measured on a single pass of contaminant charge.
Odour Reduction
As with all electronic precipitators they are particle collectors, not odour molecule collectors.
True, electronic precipitators produce ozone, which is an oxidant, but is produced in such minute amounts there is no significant value in odour reduction.
An industry rule-of-thumb is that particles carry 50% of odour molecules.
The remaining is present in molecular form.
This requires a different treatment, such as adsorption (carbon filters) and/or UV lamps to adequately control odour.
